Procedure

Evaluation framework
The performance of the different methods will be assessed for two different transmission schemes
  • regular scheme: the steered plane waves are transmitted with an increment angle of 0.43°. For instance, in the particular case of 5 steered plane-waves, the values of the involved steered angles are equal to (-0.86°, -0.43°, 0°, +0.43°, +0.86°).

  • dichotomous scheme: the steered plane waves are transmitted uniformally from -αmax to +αmax. For instance, in the particular case of 5 steered plane-waves, the values of the involved steered angles are equal to (-16°, -8°, 0°, +8°, +16°).
For both transmission schemes, varying odd number of firings from 1 to 75 have been used. Each case has been stored in a different file. For instance, the dataset files (RF and IQ) corresponding to the regular transmission scheme with 3 steered plane waves (angles of -0.43°, 0 and +0.43°) are named:
  • dataset_rf_transmission_1_nbPW_3.hdf5
  • dataset_iq_transmission_1_nbPW_3.hdf5
In the same manner, the dataset files (RF and IQ) corresponding to the dichotomous transmission scheme with 3 steered plane waves (angles of -16°, 0 and +16°) are named:
  • dataset_rf_transmission_2_nbPW_3.hdf5
  • dataset_iq_transmission_2_nbPW_3.hdf5
The performance of the different is evaluated on the 38 differents dataset files provided with the different transmission schemes, leading to a total of 76 dataset files to reconstruct for each of the four phantoms that compose the database ('numerical', 'in_vitro_type1', 'in_vitro_type2', 'in_vitro_type3' and 'in_vitro_type4'). For each reconstructed image, the metrics described in the About sub-menu are used.
