The scientific activities at FIMH will take place the Biomedicum Centre, at Helsinki University Central Hospital (HUCH). This is a brand-new Conference Centre in Helsinki with all modern audio-visual equipment. The address of the Biomedicum Centre is :

All participants should register at the Conference desk before attending the meeting.
Participants and accompanying persons should wear the conference badge during the Conference in the lecture halls, the poster sessions and during the social program.
We will book you a room (Marttahotelli or Hotel Helka only) if you email your arrival and departure date and preferred hotel to jukka.nenonen@hut.fi. Payment directly in the hotel.

From each hotel there are excellent bus and tram connections to the symposium site, Biomedicum (www.biomedicum.fi) at Helsinki University Central Hospital (5-15 minutes). We will arrange guidance from the hotels to Biomedicum on Thursday (15.11.) morning, and a bus will take you from there to the "Beaujolais Nouveau" Reception in the evening. We will inform about other social programme for Saturday 17.11. in the nearest future.
Major international airlines fly directly to the Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport 25 km north of the centre of Helsinki.
Both regular taxi and group taxi can take you from the airport directly to your hotel. The cost to downtown Helsinki is approximately 160 FIM for regular taxi and 60 - 70 FIM for one person in a group taxi (Taxi Service and Yellow Line). Downtown Helsinki can also be reached by a regional bus line 615 (17 FIM, see the schedule), or by Finnair bus (30 FIM). The buses leave outside the terminal building at the airport every 10-20 minutes and the journey takes about 30 minutes to the main railway station of Helsinki (see the timetable for bus 615, or the Citybus).
Meilahti can be reached from the centre of Helsinki by buses or trams running along 'Mannerheimintie'. Public transportation within the Helsinki city limits is 10 FIM. A regional ticket valid in the metropolitan area (including Espoo) costs 17 FIM. Both tickets entitle to transfers within one hour. These tickets can be purchased from the driver. A discount price regional ticket for ten trips can be purchased at the main bus station and R-kiosks. A taxi from the Helsinki city centre to Meilahti is approximately 80 FIM (15 minutes).
Time Zone
The time zone in Finland during the conference is GMT +2 hours, Eastern Europe Daylight Saving Time (EET DST).
Electricity
230 V, 50 Hz, 2-pin socket.
Climate and clothing Day-time temperatures in November average 0 - 5 °C. Warm rain-proof clothing is advisable for outdoor wear. The possibility of rain or occasional snow cannot be excluded. You can check the Finnish weather forecast daily from the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
Visa Participants requiring a visa for entry to Finland are strongly advised to make their application in their home country at least three months before the intended date of travel. For more information, please contact your nearest Embassy or Consulate of Finland or consult your travel agency.
Currency The Finnish currency is Finnish Mark (FIM), which divides into 100 pennies. In 2001, one EUR is 5.94573 FIM, one DEM is approximately 3.0 FIM, and one USD is approximately 5.9 FIM. Most Finnish services accept major credit cards. Travellers' cheques are accepted at banks, travel agencies, hotels and many shops. Banking hours are Monday - Friday 09:15 - 16:15. Foreign currencies are easily exchanged to Finnish Marks at exchange agencies and banks on the airport, in the railway station, and at many places in the center of Helsinki. (euro countries, other countries).
Insurance
The conference organizers cannot accept liability for personal injuries sustained, for loss of, or damage to property belonging to conference participants (or their accompanying persons), either during or as a result of the Conference. Please check the validity of your own travel insurance.
Liability
The Organizing Committee and the Conference Office in no event shall be liable for acts or omissions in the event of injury, damage, loss, accident, delay or irregularity of any kind whatsoever during arrangements organised through contractors or the employees of such contractors in carrying out services. The Organizing Committee and the Conference Office reserve the right to make changes where deemed necessary, without prior notice to parties concerned. All disputes are subject to Finnish Law.
