Continuous-emission ultrasound imaging
A new ultrasound imaging paradigm based on continuous emission and reception, rather than short pulse-echo acquisitions.
A different imaging paradigm
Classical ultrasound imaging relies on short transmitted pulses and reconstruction from their echoes. The continuous-emission approach instead uses continuous transmission and reception followed by signal separation and reconstruction.
M-mode imaging and inverse problems
The first developments focused on M-mode imaging. The reconstruction was formulated as an inverse problem and solved with regularization and proximal optimization, providing a route to high temporal resolution while addressing the mixing of transmitted and received signals.
Toward B-mode imaging
The work has been extended toward 2D B-mode imaging with multi-transmitter and multi-receiver configurations. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of very high acquisition rates, while reconstruction and instrumentation remain active research questions.
