Ultrasound Localization Microscopy

Microbubble detection and localization methods for super-resolved vascular mapping, with particular attention to adaptive beamforming.

ULM

Microbubble detection

ULM reconstructs vascular structures by detecting and localizing individual contrast-agent microbubbles over repeated acquisitions. A key methodological challenge is to detect enough bubbles while maintaining localization precision.

Adaptive beamforming

Research with collaborators at Heriot-Watt University and CREATIS examined how adaptive beamforming affects microbubble localization and super-resolved vessel recovery. The work compares adaptive approaches with conventional delay-and-sum reconstruction.

Decision-theory-based detection

A detection method based on decision theory was developed for microbubble identification. The approach was evaluated with simulated and experimental data and contributed to the development of a dedicated ULM research axis at CREATIS.
