[Dcmlib] cvs access

Hi,

I downloaded and installed tortoisecvs and I used the all the info, like 
CVSROOT, that is there on gdcm web pages to try chekcout version 1.0.

But the tortoise cvs is never asking me any password and while I am 
trying to checkout it is just asking me to login before trying to 
checkout but cant I login while I am trying to chekc out.

how to login using tortoise cvs without setting up environment variables.
