Development of the Reconstruction ToolKit (RTK) - R&D Engineer - 2 years

Context: The CREATIS laboratory (Lyon, France) opens an engineer position in collaboration with the Université catholique de Louvain  (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium) and an industrial partner. The position is funded by the Région Wallonne of Belgium.

Medical and scientific context: The objective of this project is to improve image quality in cone-beam computed tomography (CT) for image- guided radiotherapy (IGRT), with application to cone-beam CT in protontherapy. The proposed solution is an accurate modeling of x-ray physical interactions based on Monte Carlo simulations, embedded in high performance image reconstruction algorithms.

Goal and tasks The engineer will develop the Reconstruction ToolKit, based on the Insight ToolKit. RTK is an open-source software for fast cone-beam CT reconstruction compatible with ITK, which is also open-source and maintained by Kitware. Kitware has opened a division in Lyon since 2010 and will be subcontracted for consultancy. The tasks of the engineer will be:
• Implementation of efficient CPU and GPU basic classes (forward and back projection, filtering, etc...),
• Development of standard reconstruction algorithms (FDK, SART, OSEM...),
• Maintenance with Kitware (automated testing with CTest, cross platform with CDash, ...),
• Development of the open-source community (mailing list, bug tracker, ...).

Profile
• Education: engineering degree or equivalent in computer sciences
• Programming skills: C++, GPU, ideally with knowledge of CMake, ITK, CDash and CTest.
• Experience: medical imaging, tomographic reconstruction.
• Languages: English required, French optional.
• Location: Centre Léon Bérard, Lyon, France (90%) and Université Catholique de Louvain (10%), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
• Salary (gross): UCL salary scale, starting at 3100 euros / month.
