Sports, Imaging and Injury Prevention: the Tanenbaum Institute for Sport Science Research awards a €1 million grant to two teams at the University Hospital of Saint-Étienne

7 November 2025

The Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS*), supported by the Larry and Judy Tanenbaum Family Foundation, has announced an endowment of more than one million euros in support of the University Hospital of Saint-Étienne (CHU de Saint-Étienne).

The Canadian owner of AS Saint-Étienne, through this exceptional donation, aims to co-finance an ambitious research program based in Saint-Étienne. This program will combine advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques and image processing with biomechanical modeling in order to better understand and prevent injuries, personalize functional recovery, and ultimately improve patient care.

This multidisciplinary research program will involve two professors from the University Hospital of Saint-Étienne and their associated research teams:

Pascal Edouard, Head of the Sports Medicine Unit at the CHU and leader of the SPIP team (Sports Performance and Injury Prevention) within the LIBM* (Interuniversity Laboratory of Biology of Motor Control) at Jean Monnet University.

Pierre Croisille, Head of the Radiology Department at the University Hospital of Saint-Étienne, Head of the Medical Imaging Division, and coordinator of the transversal project IDM4 (Imaging of Muscular and Myocardial Damage) within the CREATIS laboratory (UMR 5220 CNRS, INSERM 1294, INSA Lyon, Jean Monnet University, Claude Bernard University Lyon 1).
