I have taught since 2005 in electrical engineering, computer science and applied mathematics, from first-year undergraduate to Master level, as lecturer, course designer and program co-director.
Since 2021, IUT Lyon 1, Department of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing (GEII)
I am part of the applied mathematics teaching team (about 270 hours per year), in the three years of the Bachelor of Technology (BUT) and, since 2026, in the first and second years of the Master in Sustainable Electrical Network Engineering (IRED).
First year
Trigonometry, functions, limits, integrals, polynomials; first- and second-order differential equations; complex numbers and their use in electricity; Fourier series, Laplace transform.
Second year
Complex Fourier series, Fourier transform, linear filtering; sampling, Z-transform, digital filtering; probability and statistics.
Third year
Linear algebra; functions of several variables, with applications to image processing; vector fields; numerical optimization.
Master 1
Functions and Taylor expansions; ordinary differential equations solved with the Euler and Runge–Kutta (RK4) methods; matrices, eigenvalues and singular value decomposition; scientific computing in Python with NumPy, Matplotlib and SymPy.
Master 2: numerical methods and optimization
A course and Python labs I designed, applied to electrical engineering: nonlinear equations and polynomial roots (fixed-point iteration, bisection, Newton, secant, companion matrix), unconstrained optimization (gradient descent, conjugate gradient, Newton and quasi-Newton), least squares and parameter identification, simulated annealing and global optimization, and constrained optimization.
Internships and apprenticeships
Academic tutor of about five second-year interns and five apprentices (BUT 3 and professional bachelor) each year, with company visits, report reviews and defenses.
Responsibilities
- since 2023Head of the second-year mathematics modules (about 150 students) and co-head of the first-year mathematics modules (about 200 students). I rewrote all lecture, tutorial and lab materials for the two second-year modules after the switch to the BUT, and set up half of the third-year mathematics course.
- since 2022Co-head, with Nadège Corlosquet, of second-year internships (about 150 students): company relations, student support, internship agreements, tutor assignment and defenses. We redesigned the internship grading in 2022/2023 and moved agreements to the MonStage platform in 2024/2025.
- since 2022Academic advisor for a group of about 24 students
2009–2021, Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse 3, Department of Computer Science
I taught computer science in the first year of the Bachelor (algorithms and programming, Boolean algebra), and signal processing, image processing and medical imaging in the third year of the Bachelor and in the Master. I wrote the syllabi of several new image processing and medical imaging courses and created their lecture, tutorial and lab materials. These courses relied on project-based learning, which the Master in Computer Science then adopted more broadly.
Medical imaging
Ultrasound imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, tomographic reconstruction methods, introduction to DICOM.
Image processing
Image restoration, image segmentation, image filtering.
Signal processing
Deterministic and random signals, linear filtering, sampling, Poisson processes, beamforming.
Computer science
Algorithms and programming, Boolean algebra.
Program responsibilities
- 2020–2021Co-head, with Philippe Muller, of the major “Artificial Intelligence: Foundations and Applications” of the Master in Computer Science (72 students in M1 and 72 in M2), which I co-designed for the 2021 accreditation
- 2018–2019Led the proposal for a Health Technologies and Artificial Intelligence department at UPSSITECH, the engineering school of Université Paul Sabatier, up to its review by the French engineering accreditation commission (CTI)
- 2016–2021Co-head, with David Vanderhaeghe, of the Master track in Computer Graphics and Image Analysis (about 20 students in M1 and 20 in M2). We created the track in 2015–2016, bringing image processing and analysis, computer vision and computer graphics together in one program, and set up an industry forum, industry talks and the program website.
